Last Call For Flight 321, Final Destination - Glory!♡♡♡
"For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. And if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!. Therefore , since we have such hope, we are very bold" - 2 Corinthians 3:10-12
In my third year of studying at University [undergrad], I was devastated when I had failed to obtain my expected grade of at least a 2.1. Not only was I dissapointed with myself, I was terrified about how I would share the news of my "failings" with my dad. I mean, my parents faithfully paid all of my fees through school. International fees for that matter. Those who know, know :). And the only thing I could think about were the last four words he said to me before I went off to University - "obtain a first class".
I had not obtained a first class. I had not even also obtained a second class upper either - yikes! For the next months or so: every time I would be in my dad's presence, I felt like a cat being forced to take a cold shower. Wimpy, nervous, afraid, petrified, paranoid and all it's relatives. I couldn't bring myself to tell him that unfortunately I had not met his expectations. I'd like to believe in that same manner, a lot worse even, was how the Israelites felt in thier hopelessness, in thier sin, in thier failings around the mountain where God's presence dwelt. Even more so when they beheld Moses' face after he had been with God from receiving the stone tablets, with God's precious commandments.
"Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit, be even more glorious? If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness" -2 Corinthians 3:7-9
Friend, can you imagine an era where we would require only specific people chosen by God to take our prayers up to God? To intercede on our behalf every time we fall short of God's commands and instructions. Can you imagine if you had to travel across oceans to find a priest to read God's word or to hear even a word from Him? God pulled all stops for us, so that we get to be partakers of the GLORY that lasts forever. The law given to Moses, exposed the reality of our situation, our hopelessness and depravity. The ministry of the Spirit on the other hand through what Christ did on the cross allows us to have such great HOPE. Our bibles should not then be on the shelf gathering dust [common!!!!], but we ought to be excited daily to engage with our new realities. For what we are ignorant about cannot be our reality. And what we are oblivious to cannot fuel the hope, boldness and confidence in God the scripture talks about.
So I didn't tell my Dad that I had dissapointed him for a very long time. Eventually he called me into his room one afternoon, after he had noticed for several weeks that something was making me withdraw in an unusual way. He began to share about his own failings in the past and how he went on to succeed in some things, inspite of them. Though I wept, I did feel a lot more closer to my dad after that. My earthly dad isn't perfect but God is. In the same manner, God desired for us to relate with him deeply. Nobody advised God to make a move. He understood clearly what was necessary for humanity to draw close to Him. He sent his only son in human form, to bridge that gap, but to also help us with our failings, our shortcomings, our weaknesses so that we may become partakers, not of the glory that was in transition by the law given on stone tablets to Moses, but of much greater glory that is lasting through Christ Jesus- A-M-A-Z-I-N-G
So how does this matter to you in the new year? Well, last year might have been an epic fail where matters to do with your relationship with God was concerned. You basically hid through all of everything maybe? But you are still here and you get to have another go at deepening your relationship with Him. You get to have another go at having great quiet times through studying the bible. You get to have another go at prioritizing the most important thing in your life. The truth is when something is off in our relationship with God, we are wimpy, nervous, afraid, petrified though life, but when we are consistent in our intimacy with Him, we are bold, brave, audacious and courageous. I don't know what 2021 has in store for us, but what I do know is that as long as I keep prioritizing the one thing that is the most important, my hope will rise with confident wings through anything the year brings and my boldness will dawn like the sunrise. Care to join me? Let's do this!!!!
