Poof & Out Came This Molten Calf ♡♡♡

"For they said to me, 'Make us a god who will go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him. I said to them, 'Let whoever has gold [jewelry], take it off.' So they gave it to me; then I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf." - Exodus 32:2324

I am always amused by Aaron's response to Moses, when I read this portion of scripture. It's how Aaron is quick to act like, the golden calf wasn't what he was expecting to see, after he made a collection of the people's gold items and threw it in the fire - "and out came this calf"  he said lol. Aaron's sneaky attempt to distance himself from the Idol he himself created for the people, is what I find very amusing.

The Israelites were bored stiff at this point, they required some more action on this thier journey to "only God knows where" :) Where is this man Moses who says he has been sent by some God?  We don't know what he is up to? Aaron, can you make us a god who will go before us? Sounds absurd right? until you think about this a lot deeper and realize that this could be you and me. That's right!

Moses was having a private moment with God. God would be giving Moses the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God. Exodus 31:18. All the people had to do, was wait for him to get back and let them in on what was next on the agenda. But, before the eyes of the people, he was well delayed. "Ain't nobody got time for this". They began to ask Aaron to make a god for them. How did time move so fast, that the people would forget the God of Israel who brought them out of Egypt, with a strong mighty arm? Good question. Wasn't the whole point of that saga, to help them know and learn of the God of Israel? I mean he was way too slow in his acts for them. They now began to know way better, sigh!

"And he took the gold from thier hands, and fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it into a molten calf; and they said, "This is your god, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt" Exodus 32: 4 - Dang!!!!

See how fast the Molten Calf suddenly becomes the saviour? That exchange was pretty fast. Aaron was for sure under a lot of pressure. And the people? super out of control too. Moses had to do a fresh new take for the people who were on God's side.

"Now when Moses saw that the people were out of control - for Aaron had let them get out of control to the point of being an object of mockery among thier enemies. Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, "Whoever is on the Lord's side, come to me!"..... Exodus 32:25-26b

-------> "for Aaron had let them get out of control to the point of being an object of mockery among thier enemies" That part stood out to me, like the cedar of Lebanon lol. Idols make a big joke out of you for real. Your Idols don't like you & your Idols make a mockery of who you claim God to be in your life. Imagine the enemies indeed watching and wondering "what manner of confused are these?" Is this truly the god who led them out of Egypt?"  "a molten calf made out of human hands?

All the Israelites needed was just a little more patience, but they blew it up, wanting something less, when they had so much more before them. Isn't it also interesting how as a result of thier lustful hearts, they also cause thier leader Aaron to sin too?  He cowered under the people's pressure even when he knew their state of heart [ "you know the people yourself, that they are prone to evil?" Exodus 32 v22], The people began to say that it was the "molten calf" that brought them out of Egypt and no longer the true & living God of Israel. - Dang, an object of mockery indeed. That's really what anything else apart from God, does to us. Infact the people become so well deceived.

As you ponder on what this means to you personally? Would you be willing to surrender to God's pace for your life? Trusting his leading, his direction even at those times like the Israelites, at the absence of Moses, it feels like "you really don't know what has become of him?" I mean the Israelites may not have known, but if they could have been a little more patient, they would have seen Moses later return down, from where he had been intimate with the Father, with the next instruction & direction for thier lives. Don't turn Your God over for mere Idols. Wait, trust and see what the Lord will do.

"Still I am certain to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. wait patiently for the LORD; be strong and courageous. Wait patiently for the LORD - Psalm 27:13-14

Your Idols don't love you, so don't take the bait!!!!!

Love,
Shay
